These are some various programs, utilities, and documents which may be
of interest to someone, somewhere...
Most of the programs here were written VERY long ago, now... So, try
not to hold them against me TOO much... ;-)
Programs, Utilities, and Documents of Interest
- Reverse Port Scanner.
(perl source, ~1.5k) A very simple Perl script that attempts
to bind to all ports on the local machine, in an attempt to find the
ones already in use by something else, just in case you can't rely
on "netstat" for some reason... (Note: Perl is not my best language,
so the code may really suck... ;-))
- Coredump Logger Module. (.c, ~6k)
A Linux 2.2.x kernel module that logs (and, optionally, prevents)
all coredumps from any ELF binaries on the system... It's really
ugly and klugy code, I'll warn you now... ;-) And, as far as I know,
it only works on 2.2.x; I haven't tried it on anything newer...
-
Star Trek Guru. (.ZIP, ~180k)
A computerized guide to Star Trek shows and movies...
For MS-DOS machines... Programmed by yours truly...
If you would like more information first before downloading, check
out the documentation...
-
Star Trek Guru. (.tar.gz, ~59k)
The Unix/C version of the above...
Without all the DOS graphics stuff... Also, programmed by me...
If you would like more information first before downloading, check
out the documentation...
-
QuickBasic Mouse Routines. (.ZIP, ~100k)
A library of functions (with full source code) to support using
a mouse in MS QuickBasic programs... Yes, I said QuickBasic... ;-)
It's hard to believe anyone still programs in QB these days, but
you'd be surprised how many people download this; it's by far the
most popular thing on my web page! ;-) Again programmed by me
(many, many moons ago ;-))... If you would like more information
first before downloading, check out the
documentation...
-
Random Quote-Printing Program. (.tar.gz, ~111k) A single
C source file for a program to print random quotes (should compile
without a problem on any system)... With 5 different quote files
(for Star Trek, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Beavis &
Butt-Head, Dan Quayle's stupid quotes, and Deep Thoughts by
Jack Handy)... Program written by me, quotes compiled from the
Net and converted to a usable format by me (except for the
Hitchhiker's quotes, which were actually typed in by me)...
- EP: The Electronic Poet. (.c, ~6k)
A single C source file for a program to print random, rather insane,
poems... Written by me, again... Check out a few
samples of some of its output... Or,
perhaps you would prefer the Wint-modified version, which produces
Magic: The Gathering style poems...
Check out some of those samples...
- AS: Artificial Stupidity.
(.tar.gz, ~5k) Full source code for
a psuedo AI-like program (in the spirit of old Eliza)... Its
personality (or personalities) are completely table-driven... It
comes with a sample table which mimics the complex personalities of
Beavis & Butt-Head... ;-) Written by me, again... Check out the
documentation...
- Douglas Adams Quotes.
(.txt, ~24k) A text file list of quotes from various
Douglas Adams books...
-
Quick Reference Guide to TNG. (.txt, ~31k) A text file of
all TNG episodes, with airdates, stardates, episode numbers,
and short synopses... Credit goes to Michael "Vidiot" Brown...
-
Guide to Star Trek episodes. (.txt, ~157k) A text file
guide of all Star Trek episodes (TOS, TNG, DS9) and movies...
(Note: this is sorely out of date, at this point!)
-
Guide to Star Trek books. (.txt, ~96k) A text file guide
to Star Trek novels and books. (Note: this is sorely out of date at
this point!)
-
Hitchhiker's Guide Ultra Complete Index. (.txt, ~122k)
Index of various words, phrases, quotes, etc. from the
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy books...
-
Ren & Stimpy Episode Guide. (.txt ~29k) A text file
guide to Ren & Stimpy episodes, with synopses...
-
Yanoff's Special Internet Connections. (.txt, ~85k) List
of various sites of interest to be found on the Net... (Note: also
sorely out of date, now... Mainly still here just as a historical
curiosity... Can you believe we used to have to rely on lists like
this to actually find anything online?? ;-))
